No. 9 Baseball Hosts Southeastern Baptist for Midweek Matchup at Tartt Field

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The No. 9 University of West Alabama baseball team returns home to Tartt Field on Tuesday, March 3, for a midweek contest against Southeastern Baptist College. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

West Alabama enters the matchup at 15-2 overall and 8-1 in Gulf South Conference play, riding the momentum of a strong start that has featured one of the most productive offenses in the region.

Tigers' Offense Clicking on All Cylinders
As a team, UWA is hitting .314 with a .440 on-base percentage and .451 slugging percentage, totaling 174 hits, 13 home runs, and 120 RBIs through 17 games. The Tigers have also been aggressive on the bases, swiping 28 bags in 40 attempts.

Nick Wilson has been one of the catalysts at the top of the order, batting .397 with four home runs and 21 RBIs while posting a 1.092 OPS. Rashad Robinson has matched that production with a .350 average, three homers, 15 RBIs, and a team-high nine stolen bases.

Kyle Blevins (.315, 12 RBIs) and Hudson Walburn (.313, 13 RBIs) continue to provide depth throughout the lineup, while Austin Thacker has been electric in limited action, hitting .444 in seven starts. Wayne Wilkerson (.355) and Peyton Moss (.385) have also delivered timely hits, combining for 16 RBIs.

Strength on the Mound
The Tigers' pitching staff has been equally impressive, holding opponents to a .228 batting average and a 3.41 ERA across 140 innings.

Blake Westry leads the staff with a 1.14 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 23.2 innings, while Thomas Kerby owns a 2.18 ERA and a .208 opponent batting average. Baker Green (3.80 ERA, 24 strikeouts) and Colin Woodham (21 strikeouts) have anchored the rotation.

Out of the bullpen, Camden Lyke, Beau Bryant, Brodey Walker, and Matthew Sheffield have yet to allow an earned run, while Tyler Pierce struck out nine in 5.2 innings with a 3.18 ERA. UWA has also been sharp defensively, committing just nine errors for a .985 fielding percentage.

Scouting Southeastern Baptist
Southeastern Baptist (5-5, 0-0 NCCAA) enters Tuesday hitting .256 as a team, led by Jeremiah McKinney (.440 average, .600 OBP) and Matthew Villanueva, who has blasted three home runs with a 1.250 OPS.

However, the Chargers' pitching staff has struggled to a 9.05 team ERA and a .352 opponent batting average through 10 games. Opponents are hitting .356 against Southeastern Baptist overall.

Series History
West Alabama and Southeastern Baptist have met twice before, with the Tigers earning a 9-3 victory in 2023 and 10-4 in 2024.

Tuesday's matchup provides another opportunity for the Tigers to fine-tune all phases of the game before continuing conference play. First pitch from Tartt Field is set for 5 p.m., with live stats and streaming available through UWA Athletics.
