Janet Montgomery Selected to GSC Hall of Fame

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — Carrying tremendous accomplishments as both a head coach and administrator, University of West Alabama Hall of Famer Janet Montgomery was selected to the Gulf South Conference Hall of Fame on Monday.

Montgomery becomes the sixth member of West Alabama to be selected to the GSC Hall of Fame, joining RT Floyd, Malcolm Butler, Brandon Dill, Jeff Branson, and Dee Outlaw.

Montgomery has left her mark on UWA in a variety of ways. The West Bend, Wisconsin, native began her career at West Alabama as the Tigers' head softball and volleyball coach. She is the longest-tenured head softball coach in school history, guiding the Tigers to 427 wins, five GSC championships, and multiple NCAA Tournament berths over 19 seasons. As UWA's volleyball coach, Montgomery led West Alabama to 53 wins in four seasons.

Following her coaching career, Montgomery transitioned into an administrative role within the athletic department. She currently serves as West Alabama's Senior Woman Administrator, making her the longest-tenured SWA in the Gulf South Conference.

In addition to her work at West Alabama, Montgomery has served on numerous NCAA committees, including the NCAA Management Council, one of the organization's most prestigious leadership bodies. The council functions similarly to a board of directors for Division II, underscoring its significance.

Montgomery has also served as chair of both the NCAA Division II Championships Committee and the Division II Softball Committee.

A graduate of Wisconsin–Parkside, where she is also a Hall of Fame inductee, Montgomery continues to build on an already distinguished and accomplished career.

Montgomery will be officially inducted into the GSC Hall of Fame Class of 2026 on Thursday, May 28, at the Hilton Pensacola Beach Hotel in Pensacola, Florida.
