LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Tennis program swept their doubleheader against Wallace State on Senior Day Saturday, with both teams winning 6-1.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: UWA 6, Wallace State 1
UWA's fourth ranked Women's team (18-4, 5-2 GSC) celebrated their seniors, Shaira Rivera, Nanoka Kazama, and Shreya Naik.
Rivera played doubles with Alexa Milliam and won, 6-4, but didn't play in singles. Jenaila Prulla and Valentina Mutilba clinched the doubles point for the Tigers as the duo won, 6-0 while the tandem of Kazama and Greta Zawels won, 6-1.
In singles action, Milliam moved up to Line One, and earned a (6-4, 6-1) decision. On Line Two, Mutilba won a three-set match, (3-6, 6-1, 10-7). Kazama was dominant on Line Three as she took home a (6-0, 6-1) victory. On Line Four, Zawels also won in straight sets, (6-2, 6-2). Prulla continued her excellent season on Line Five, securing a (6-1, 6-0) win.
MEN'S TENNIS: UWA 6, Wallace State 1
West Alabama Men's Squad (14-6, 5-3 GSC) honored their seniors, Afonso Portugal, Sebastiao Vilas, Alejandro Flores, and Itaru Kikuchi.
The Tigers opened the match, by winning the doubles point. Soon after, UWA won Lines One-Five singles.
Jacob Tapia earned a (6-4, 7-6) win on Line One while Portugal picked up a (6-3, 6-0) victory on Line Two. Maksim Goncharov continued his brilliant freshman campaign, winning (6-3, 6-1) on Line Three. Federico Iturbe turned in a (6-3, 6-0) result on Line Four before Kikuchi picked up a (6-4, 6-2) win on Line Five to round out things for West Alabama.
UWA now turns their attention to the GSC Tournament which is set to begin on Thursday. The Women are set to play AUM while the Men's team will play Valdosta State in Tuscaloosa.
