LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The West Alabama men's soccer team has three newcomers earning recognition ahead of the 2026 season, as the Gulf South Conference named Tigers Jack Porter, Yabsira Cobo and Florian Laot to the Preseason Newcomers Watch List.
The trio joins West Alabama as part of a talented 15-player recruiting class assembled by head coach Ross Nelson, who enters his sixth season leading the Tigers. The newcomers are expected to bring a combination of international experience, club success and collegiate competition as West Alabama prepares for the upcoming campaign.
Porter, a freshman defender from Carlisle, United Kingdom, comes to Livingston after playing for Carlisle United U18. Porter appeared in one match for the club, earning a start and playing all 90 minutes. His defensive presence and experience within the Carlisle United system give the Tigers another young option along the back line heading into the season.
Cobo, a freshman forward from Gijón, Spain, joins the Tigers after competing with Luarca CF. Over six years of club soccer, Cobo has accumulated 7,777 minutes while scoring 12 goals. His experience on the attacking end provides West Alabama with another offensive weapon as the Tigers look to build upon last season's campaign.
Laot, a freshman midfielder from Bourg-des-Comptes, France, comes to West Alabama after playing for OC Cesson. Laot appeared in 22 matches across two seasons with the club, making five starts while recording 618 total minutes. His experience in the midfield adds another versatile piece to a Tigers squad welcoming a large group of newcomers.
The recognition of Porter, Cobo and Laot highlights the depth of West Alabama's incoming class, which features players from across the United States and internationally. With the 2026 season approaching, the three newcomers will look to make an immediate impact as the Tigers continue to develop under Nelson's leadership.
West Alabama will announce its complete 2026 schedule ahead of the upcoming season.
