LIVINGSTON, Ala. — University of West Alabama women's soccer junior transfer Allie Kimbrell has been named the Gulf South Conference Defender of the Week following her standout debut with the Tigers.

Kimbrell made an immediate impact in her first appearance in a West Alabama uniform, scoring the game-winning goal in the Tigers' 1-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday, August 28.

The junior transfer from Northwest Mississippi Community College started the contest and played all 90 minutes, helping anchor a West Alabama defense that recorded a shutout in the season opener.

While making her presence felt defensively, Kimbrell also provided the decisive offensive moment of the match. She finished with two shots, including one shot on goal, and converted her lone shot on frame for the game-winning goal.

Kimbrell's goal marked the perfect beginning to her UWA career, as the newcomer helped the Tigers open the 2026 season with a victory.

The Defender of the Week honor marks Kimbrell's first weekly conference accolade as a member of the Tigers.

West Alabama will look to build on its strong start as the Tigers prepare for their first road match of the season against Montevallo on Tuesday, September 1. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
