LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team continued its dominant run Friday night, sweeping Auburn University at Montgomery 3-0 inside Pruitt Hall to extend its winning streak to 13 consecutive matches.
West Alabama took the match 25-16, 25-12, 25-18, extending its school-record streak to 31 consecutive sets won. The Tigers improved to 15-1 overall and 3-0 in Gulf South Conference play with the victory.
Katerina Korre and Klára Bobánová were named Players of the Match after leading a West Alabama attack that finished with 44 kills and a .359 hitting percentage. UWA held AUM to 23 kills and a .065 hitting percentage while also recording eight service aces, 47 digs and five team blocks.
Korre led the Tigers with 11 kills on a .435 hitting percentage, adding three service aces, eight digs and two total blocks for a match-high 15.5 points. Bobánová was equally efficient, putting down 10 kills while hitting .500 and adding three total blocks, including two solo blocks.
Jazlyn Snow and
Duru Seber each added six kills, with Seber hitting .500 on 10 attacks.
Ola Winiarek and
Cadence Goeden each contributed four kills, while
Raven Grant finished with three.
Freshman setter
Rachele Zanini directed the offense with 35 assists and 10 digs for a double-double.
Bailey Keef contributed eight digs, three assists and three service aces.
The Tigers had to respond to an AUM run in the opening set after the Warhawks turned a 9-6 deficit into an 11-9 advantage. UWA answered and eventually took control behind Keef at the service line. Her serving helped fuel a late Tiger run before consecutive kills from Snow and Korre finished the opening set, 25-16.
West Alabama dominated the second frame. A service ace from Snow and a kill from Winiarek helped push the Tigers ahead 13-5. UWA continued to build its advantage, with Bobánová contributing a solo block and multiple kills down the stretch. Snow put the Tigers at set point before Korre finished the 25-12 victory.
AUM kept the third set closer early, but West Alabama again created separation. Korre and Seber combined for a block to give UWA a 15-11 advantage before the Tigers steadily pulled away. Korre's final kill made it 22-18, Seber followed with a kill to reach match point, and an AUM attack error completed the 25-18 victory and the sweep.
The sweep gives West Alabama 13 consecutive victories and pushes the Tigers' school-record run to 31 consecutive sets won.
West Alabama returns to action Saturday afternoon as the Tigers continue Gulf South Conference play against Valdosta State University. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall in Livingston.
