LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Football team swept the GSC Weekly awards on Monday.
West Alabama wins all four awards after defeating Barton College on the road, 17-7. Luther Richesson was named the GSC Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season while Jalin Herbert earns the first Defensive Player of the Week award of his career. Eoin Walsh was named the GSC Freshman and Special Teams Player of the week, securing his third and fourth acknowledgment of the year.
Richesson earns the status of GSC Offensive Player of the Week after recording 212 passing yards and two touchdowns against Barton. The Quarterback completed 18 of his 28 passes for a 64.3 percent completion percentage. The graduate is now up 12 touchdowns on the year.
Herbert earned his first Defensive Player of the Week award after creating a momentum shifting play on Saturday. With the Tigers leading 10-7, Herbert recorded a strip sack on Barton's Quarterback which was recovered by Jacob Thornton at Barton's 11-yard line. Herbert's strip sack led to West Alabama's second touchdown of the day which put the game out of reach in the second half.
Walsh continues to impress on Special Teams as a freshman. The Specialist handled four of UWA's kickoffs, accumulating 258 yards and three touchbacks. The freshman also registered two punts for 83 yards, with a long of 48 yards. In the first half, Walsh converted a fake punt run that resulted in a 19-yard gain to keep West Alabama's drive alive.
Richesson, Herbert, and Walsh will lead the Tigers into their Homecoming matchup against the Chowan Hawks on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
