UWA Falls at Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team fell 80-55 at Arkansas Tech on Saturday, Nov. 28 to equal its record at 2-2 on the season. ATU remained undefeated as they improved to 5-0 in the win.

Freshman Brittany Yeager posted the first 20-point performance of her career to lead UWA in scoring as the Woodstock, Ga.-native scored 20 points. Yeager also led the Tigers on the boards with six rebounds. Keiara Middleton added double figures in the scoring column with 14 points. The double digit scoring effort for the Birmingham, Ala.-product is a season-high.

Natalia Santos led all scorers with 21 points and added a team leading eight rebounds for the Golden Suns. Jenny Vining chimed in 14 points for ATU.

Trailing 43-31 at the half, the Red and White strung together an 8-2 run to open the second session that cut the deficit to six points with 12:34 remaining. The run was capped by a pair of free throws from Middleton.

ATU answered with a 10-0 spurt over the next minute and a half to push its lead out to 16 points. The Golden Suns didn't allow the Tigers within single digits the remainder of the game as they reached their largest lead, 27 points, with just under a minute to play in the contest.

UWA, which was out-rebounded for the third straight game, shot 32.7-percent from the floor while ATU connected on 60.8-percent of its shots.

After the Golden Suns opened the game with a 10-5 run, UWA took its first lead of the game at 14-13 with 13:18 remaining before the intermission. The two teams exchanged lead changes before ATU gained a 21-17 advantage with 11:25 left to play in the first half. The Golden Suns reached their first double digit margin, at 10 points, with less than seven minutes left before the break.

West Alabama continues its five-game road trip as the Tigers will stay in the state of Arkansas and visit Harding on Monday, Nov. 30 with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off time.
