Tigers Host Talladega College

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 21 as UWA hosts Talladega College in non-conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

UWA opened the 2009-2010 season with a 76-39 win over Concordia College of Selma on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at Pruitt Hall.

Two Tigers making their debuts at UWA led the Red and White in scoring. Freshman Brittany Yeager led the way with 18 points followed by Lacey Griffin with 13 points. Yeager, a Woodstock, Ga.-native, and Erin Courington paced the Tigers on the boards with eight each.

UWA forced 32 CC miscues and turned it into 30 points. The Tigers also held the advantage in the paint scoring 34 points and gained 28 points from the bench.

Saturday marks the 14th meeting in the series between Talladega and UWA with UWA leading the series at 10-3. This marks the first meeting since the 2000-01, a 61-60 win for TC. The win extended the Tornadoes win streak to two straight. West Alabama won the first eight meetings in the series, which started during the 1982-83 season. TC snapped the eight-game win streak with a 71-63 win in 1995-96. Since then the two teams have met four times splitting the last four outcomes.

Talladega enters the contest having dropped its last two decisions. The Tornadoes fell in their first two games of the season before winning the next three contests. TC fell 73-71 to Tennessee Temple in its last outing on Nov. 17th.

Following the Saturday non-conference affair, UWA will travel to Cleveland, Miss. on Monday, Nov. 23 to face Delta State. Tip-off at Walter Sillers Coliseum is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
