UWA Drops Decision at Harding

SEARCY, Ark. – The University of West Alabama women’s basketball team continues to look for its first victory away from Pruitt Hall as UWA (2-3) dropped its third straight decision, 84-51, against Harding on Monday evening. Freshman Brittany Yeager led a trio of Tigers in scoring double figures with 15 points. It marks the fourth outing in double digits for the Woodstock, Ga.-native. Sophomores Erin Courington and Keiara Middleton each chimed in 12 points in the loss. The 12 points mark a season-high for Courington, who hails from Locust Fork, Ala., and the second consecutive double digit scoring effort for Middleton, a Birmingham, Ala.-product. Yeager also paced the Red and White on the boards with five rebounds. Lindsey Root led HU (3-4) with 19 points followed by 12 points from Meaghen Kelleybrew. Sierra Rollins led the Lady Bisons with six rebounds. For the fourth straight contest UWA found itself on the short end of the rebound margin as HU claimed 38 rebounds to the Tigers’ 30. UWA overcame an early 8-2 run by the Lady Bisons to gain its first lead of the game, 9-8, with 16:24 to play in the opening half. The Tigers extended its lead to 17-11 over the next three minutes led by six of Middleton’s 12 points during the stretch. HU worked UWA’s lead down to 19-17 before regaining the lead at 20-19 with 11 minutes to play in the first half. The Black and Gold pushed its lead out to as many as 15 points before heading into the break up 40-27. HU increased its lead with a 21-12 run over the first 10 minutes of the second half, extending the margin to 61-39. The Lady Bisons claimed it’s largest of the game, 33 points, on a three-pointer by Rollins that ended the contest. West Alabama returns to action this weekend as UWA takes part in the West Florida hosted UWF Argo Classic. The Tigers open with Columbus State at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and close out the two-day tournament with Eckerd at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
