UWA Drops 59-58 Double Overtime Contest to Christian Brothers

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Junior Nicole Dames came off the bench to post a career-high 16 points, but it wasn't enough as the University of West Alabama women's basketball team dropped a 59-58 double overtime decision to Christian Brothers on Saturday evening. The Darien, Ill.-native was one of two Tigers (2-6) in double figures scoring on the night, as Dames shot 66.7-percent from the field, including 80-percent from behind the arc. Freshman Brittany Yeager continued her double digit scoring effort en route to her second career double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. It marks the fifth straight contest in double digits for the Woodstock, Ga.-native and the seventh of her career. The Red and White had an opportunity in the final seconds of each overtime to pull out the victory and snap a five-game losing skid, but couldn't get the shots to break the Lady Bucs six-game win streak. CBU improved to 7-1 on the season. After Katie Hume drained a trey in the first minute of the second overtime, Erin Courington pulled UWA within one point. Keiara Middleton tried to pull of the win for the Tiger as she drove end to end, but couldn't get her layup to reach the bottom of the basket as time expired. The Red and White's first chance to end the game came at the end of the first extra session as Yeager had her jump shot partially blocked at the conclusion CBU capitalized on 28 Tiger turnovers, turning those miscues into 29 points. The Lady Bucs also scored 38 points in the paint to the Red and White's 24 points inside. Sheena DeBose and Jasmine Ellis each posted double-doubles in the win for the Red and Black. DeBose finished with a team-best 18 points going along with 11 rebounds while Ellis gathered a team-leading 12 boards to coincide with her 12 points. Tameka Wooten supplied 10 points to round out the Lady Bucs' double digit scoring producers. West Alabama returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 15 as UWA hosts NAIA member Shorter College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
