UWA Hosts Shorter Tuesday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women’s basketball team continues a four-game homestand as the Tigers (2-6) welcome NAIA member Shorter College to Pruitt Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Live stats will be available along with a video stream of the contest at athletics.uwa.edu. UWA, which meets Shorter (5-4) for the first time in program history, looks to snap a six-game losing streak and rebound from its first home loss since last season after falling to Christian Brothers 59-58 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon. Junior Nicole Dames paced the Red and White in the setback, scoring a career-high 16 points off the bench. Freshman Brittany Yeager posted her second career double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds to finish out the double digit scoring efforts for the Tigers. Yeager, a Woodstock, Ga.-forward, leads UWA in scoring and rebounding on the season. Yeager is averaging 15.1 points and 7.5 boards per game. SC enters the midweek encounter riding a two-game win streak, including an 86-58 win over Spring Hill on Sunday afternoon. Tamara Weatherby led all scorers in the victory with 20 points. Weatherby leads the Lady Hawks in scoring with 13.1 points per outing while Tabatha Jenkins is SC’s leader on the glass with 5.8 rebounds per contest. Tuesday’s affair marks the fourth straight road game for the Royal Blue and White as SC is 3-1 on the season on the road and 2-1 during a five-game road swing. West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 19 as UWA hosts Gulf South Conference West Division member the University of Arkansas at Monticello at 1:00 p.m. The outing against the Cotton Blossoms is the first of two inter-divisional affairs for the Tigers before the holiday break. UWA will wind up the pre-holiday slate against Southern Arkansas on Monday, Dec. 21.
