UWA Drops 76-68 Outing to Eckerd

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Career-high scoring performances couldn’t help the University of West Alabama women’s basketball team as the Tigers (2-5) fell 76-68 to Eckerd College in the third game of the West Florida hosted Argo Classic. The loss marks the fifth straight loss for UWA as EC improves to 3-4 on the season. Freshmen Brittany Yeager and Dakota Powell each carded career-high nights in the loss. Yeager recorded a career-high 21 points to lead a trio of Tiger double figure scorers. The forward from Woodstock, Ga. was also named to the Argo Class All Tournament Team as she tallied 39 total points as the two-day classic. Powell supplied a career-high 10 points while Nicole Dames added an UWA-high 10 points to round out the double digit scoring producers. Yeager also paced the Red and White on the boards with seven rebounds. As a team, the Tigers pulled down 33 boards to out-rebound EC by four rebounds in the contest. It marks just the second time this season that the Red and White have out-rebounded its opponent, snapping a five game streak. Kati Rausberg led the way for the Tritons with 23 points. Ashley Lutz added 11 points while Jordan Stacey tallied 10 points along with a team leading seven rebounds. EC led by as many as 21 points on two different occasions in the second half, the last coming with just under seven minutes to play in the contest. UWA went on a17-4 run over the next six minutes to work the deficit down to eight points. Dames, a Darien, Ill.-native, led the way on the charge with seven points during the run, as the junior hit back-to-back treys during the spurt. Rausberg and Lutz each hit a pair of free throws extending the Tritons lead to 10 points on two occasions during the final 23 seconds. Stacey gave EC an 11-point lead, connecting on the backend of a pair of shots from the charity stripe. Dames drained her third three-pointer of the game to cap the scoring. UWA fell behind 14-6 in the first six minutes of the contest, but the Tigers put together a 10-3 run, that was capped by a trey from Powell, a Woodville, Ala.-guard. EC pushed the lead back out to eight points, the second time in the first half for the Tritons, before heading in down 34-28 at the half. West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 12 as UWA begins a four-game homestand against Christian Brothers.
