LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team made an inspiring bid for its second upset of the nation's top-ranked team in less than a week but fell on a last-second shot, dropping a 58-56 decision to No. 1 Delta State on Thursday night at Pruitt Hall. Trailing by a pair late in the contest,

Greer led the Tigers in the impressive effort as she recorded 17 points on the night.
Delta State tallied the first points in the contest on a pair of free throws from leading scorer Veronica Walker just eight seconds into the affair, and the Lady Statesmen held the Tigers off the scoreboard until LaShandra McCoy tied the contest with 17 minutes remaining in the opening period. UWA proceeded to take the lead 30 seconds later when Greer made her first basket, and the hosts never trailed again in the stanza.
Coming out of the locker room with a 28-22 score in their favor, the Red and White scored six of the second half's first eight points and built up the largest lead either team would enjoy, holding a 34-24 advantage just under two minutes into the half.
The Lady Statesmen hung close, however, trimming the lead down to just a point on two occasions and then tilted the contest back in their favor at the 5:02 mark at 48-47.
The exciting final minutes of the battle saw each squad hold a three-point advantage before the heartbreaking final shot sealed the game for the visitors.
