VALDOSTA, Ga. – Dropping a close decision for the second time in as many games, the University of West Alabama women's basketball team fell 59-55 to Talladega College on Saturday at the VSU Days INNvitational. UWA falls to 4-2 on the season with the loss while the Lady Tornadoes improve to 2-8.
Mystee Dale – the reigning Gulf South Conference East Division Player of the Week – led the Tigers as she recorded her second double-double of the season. The Laurel, Miss. native scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the contest.
No other Tiger reached double figures in either category.
West Alabama led throughout virtually the entire first half and carried a 25-20 lead into the halftime break, and the squad used a 17-4 run to start the second stanza to push out to its largest lead of the game at 42-24 with 13:57 left in the contest.
At that point the momentum switched entirely onto the side of the Lady Tornadoes who were attempting to avenge a loss at the hands of UWA earlier this season. A 20-6 scoring streak for TC over the next seven minutes cut the Tiger advantage down to just five, and Talladega came all the way back to tie the contest at 53 on an Ebony Richardson 3-pointer at the 3:36 mark.
Richardson – who led all scorers with 26 points – hit another trey following a UWA turnover to give the Lady Tornadoes the lead with just under three minutes remaining in the game, and TC would not relinquish its advantage through the remainder of the affair.
For the game, the Lady Tornadoes outshot the Red and White by a 41.2 percent to 39.0 percent margin while narrowly also winning the battle on the glass by a 35-34 clip.
West Alabama will attempt to get back on the winning track on Sunday in its final contest of the weekend as the team will take on Georgia Southwestern. Tip from the Valdosta State campus is schedule for 1 p.m. CST, and live stats will be available at www.vstateblazers.com.
