Live Stats

LIVINGSTON,
Ala.
After posting a pair of wins in the season debut, the University of West Alabama softball team returns to the UWA Softball Complex on Wednesday, Feb. 17, against region foe Stillman College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Live stats will be available at www.uwaathletics.com.

UWA opened the 2010 campaign with a convincing sweep of Judson College last Thursday. The Tigers blanked JC 8-0 before downing the Eagles 14-4 in the second contest. UWA was scheduled to make its first road trip of the season last Saturday, but Mother Nature blanketed the area with snow. Wednesday's twinbill will serve as a tune up for this weekend's participation in the UAH Chillout in Decatur, Ala.

Against Judson, UWA combined for 23 hits and posted 21 RBI, while the Tiger hurlers kept JC at bay in the affair. Freshman Anna Shartzer put together a 4-for-4 outing in her collegiate debut. The Gulf Shores, Ala.-native connected on a single in a pinch-hit role in the opening contest before earning a start in the lineup in the second game. In the game, Shartzer finished with three hits, including a pair of doubles and a stolen base. A trio of Tigers launched their first home runs of the season in the doubleheader – Angela Hanna, Lauren Mills and Kelli Hartley. Hanna's was her first of UWA career.

In the circle, junior college transfer Katie Ford, tossed five strong string innings and fanned seven in her first outing as a Tiger. Senior Jessica Cervantes pitched an inning in both games, striking out three in her two innings of work. Hannah Billingsley was credited with her first win the Red and White.

Wednesday's meeting with the Tigers of Stillman is the first of a home-and-home series. UWA will visit Tuscaloosa, Ala. on March 10. The Red and White own an 11-0 all-time mark over SC on the softball diamond.

Following the SC doubleheader, UWA will make its first of two trips to Decatur, Ala. this weekend for the annual UAH Chillout. The Tigers will open the three-day, six-game event on Friday, Feb. 19 against Georgia College & State at 10 a.m. followed by a noon match up with Barry University.
