LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Returning to the UWA Softball Complex for the first time Feb. 28, the University of West Alabama softball team will begin a 12-game homestand on Wednesday, March 24 against region foe Miles College. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
Since its last home date, UWA has played 16 games away from Livingston and turned in an 8-8 mark on the extended road trip. The Tigers enter Wednesday's twinbill with a 21-11 overall mark after dropping a pair of Gulf South Conference contests last Sunday at West Florida. Following the midweek tilt with Miles, UWA returns to GSC action against West Georgia on Saturday before hosting UAH on Sunday.
The Tigers claimed a sweep over the Golden Bears earlier this season in Pleasant Grove, Ala. UWA topped MC 4-1 in the opener and 8-0 in the second contest.
As a team UWA is batting .289 and has collected 85 extra base hits in the first 31 games of the season. The Tigers rank third in the GSC in home runs with 30 and fifth in the conference in doubles. Individually, freshman Anna Shartzer leads the Tiger charge with a .358 clip at the dish. The Gulf Shore, Ala.-native leads the club in hits with 38. In the circle, Katie Ford leads the UWA pitching staff with a 15-2 mark in the circle. The Garden City, Kan.-product leads the GSC in wins and ranks fourth in strikeouts.
