LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama softball team returns to Gulf South Conference play as UWA entertains West Georgia in its GSC home opener on Saturday, March 27. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the UWA Softball Complex.
 
 
The Tigers began their 12-game homestand with a pair of wins over Miles College on Tuesday. UWA enters the weekend 23-11 overall and 2-4 in league contests. The Wolves of UWG, who are coming off a pair of setbacks to top-ranked North Georgia during the mid week, brings a 12-26 overall mark and in search of their first conference win of the season.
 
UWA looks to keep its unblemished record at home this season as the two wins on Tuesday bumped the home record to 10-0. Last season, UWA and UWG split its four games as both squads swept the doubleheader on the home field. The Tigers bounced the Wolves 12-1 and 15-8 last year in Livingston.
 
The NCAA released its initial statistical rankings for the season and the Tigers rank in the top 30 in a pair of categories. UWA is listed 24th in Division II in home runs per game and ranks 29th in the nation in stolen bases per game. Individually, junior pitcher ranks third in the country in wins after notching her 16th win of the season on Tuesday against Miles. Senior closer Jessica Cervantes is listed second on the Division II level in saves, just one shy of the nation's leader – Shelby Cockrell of West Texas A&M. Junior Stephanie Beahn leads the GSC and ranks 14th in the country in sacrifice hits. 
 
Following Saturday's twinbill, UWA will host No. 6 UAH on Sunday. The Chargers will begin the weekend at North Alabama on Saturday before strolling into Livingston. First pitch on Sunday is slated for 2 p.m.
