LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After finishing the Gulf South Conference Crossover with a 4-3 mark, the University of West Alabama softball team returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 13, traveling to Demopolis, Ala. to face Judson College at 2 p.m. The twinbill will be contested at the Demopolis Sportsplex.
UWA (32-19) put together three-straight comeback wins over the weekend before dropping the last game of the weekend to Arkansas Tech. The Red and White came from behind in its last at bat to post wins over Christian Brothers, Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist. The Tigers enter the GSC stretch run tied with North Alabama for the final GSC Tournament spot. UNA visits the UWA Softball Complex on Sunday, April 18.
Tuesday's meeting with the Eagles will be the second double dip of the season between the two squads as UWA opened the season with sweep of JC. It will also mark the second visit to Demopolis for the Tigers as they played some Fall scrimmages at the Sportsplex.
Freshman Anna Shartzer continues to pace the UWA bats with a .367 batting average, including a team-best 62 hits. The Gulf Shores, Ala.-rookie has turned in 11 doubles and three home runs. Shartzer extended her hitting streak to a season-best 12 games after collecting hits on Sunday against OBU and ATU. Junior Jessica Powell holds the team RBI lead with 31 on the season.
In the circle, junior Katie Ford sports a 22-6 record after recording three wins this past weekend. Ford has tossed 159.1 innings pitched and has struck out 168 on the season. Opposing batters are hitting just .238 against her.
Following Tuesday's DH, the Tigers will host Lambuth on Saturday, April 17 for Senior Day. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Sunday's GSC tilt with UNA is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
