Tigers Push Past West Georgia In Overtime Thriller

CARROLLTON, Ga. – With late heroics from Mystee Dale and a dominating performance in the extra period, the University of West Alabama secured its first road victory in conference play with an 80-71 overtime triumph over West Georgia Thursday night. The win improves UWA to 15-3 (3-1 Gulf South Conference), while the Wolves fall to 4-13 (1-2 GSC).

With the Tigers trailing by two and just 12 seconds on the clock, Dale scurried down the floor and nailed a contested jumper with six seconds remaining to knot the game at 62-62. West Georgia was unable to produce a shot on the ensuing possession, forcing overtime.

The Red and White – the second-ranked team in the NCAA South Region – proceeded to tear off a 16-4 run in the first four minutes of overtime to build up its largest lead of the night at 12 and ensure the win.

Dale finished the night with 22 points and was joined by teammate LaShandra McCoy who also registered 22 for her third-straight game scoring in double figures. McCoy registered her first double-double of the season as she also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Latashia Greer also scored in double-figures for West Alabama, recording 17 points in the winning effort.

UWA outshot the hosts on the night by a 43.2 percent to 31.6 percent margin, while the Wolves outrebounded the Tigers 47-43.

The Tigers return home to Livingston for a 2 p.m. contest against North Alabama with first place in the GSC East Division on the line. Live stats and a video webcast for the contest will be available through www.uwaathletics.com.
