LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Looking to keep its winning streak alive and to build upon a 4-0 road record, the University of West Alabama women's basketball team will hit the road to Miles College for an NCAA South Region contest on Thursday evening. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
The team has won seven consecutive games en route to its 11-2 mark on the season and received votes in the latest USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll. More importantly, 10 of UWA's 11 wins on the season have been South Region victories which could have the Tigers in good shape when the first regional rankings come out on Jan. 25.
There is work to be done prior to that, however, and it begins with the contest against the Lady Bears on Thursday. The meeting is the first between the two programs since the 2006-07 season when the Tigers were victorious in Livingston by a 76-60 score.
The Tigers will continue to lean on four-time Gulf South Conference Player of the Week Mystee Dale as they strive to keep their record away from Pruitt Hall perfect. The Laurel, Miss. native sits on top of the league in scoring, averaging more than 21 points per game.
Leading the supporting cast,
Latashia Greer has been strong of late and is the only other Tiger to average in double figures as she has averaged nearly 13 points per contest. The team has also received solid contribution from
Dakota Powell who has recorded nine 3-pointers in UWA's last three contests.
The Lady Bears pose a triple-threat in scoring as Sammeika Thomas, Ashley Orphrey, and Toccara Charles all average around 11 points per game. The trio have lead Miles to a 4-3 record including wins in each of the squad's previous three games.
