LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama will host the 17th annual UWA Rodeo Showdown beginning Thursday, Oct. 13 through Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Don C. Hines Rodeo Complex. Events begin nightly at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under.
Last year, the Showdown hosted approximately 400 student-wranglers representing 16 men's and women's teams from across the southeast and was named Most Improved by the head coaches of the Ozark region. This year's rodeo hopes to continue in its trend as Wrangler National Finals Rodeo clown, Robbie Hodges, will be on hand to entertain the crowd.
“This year we have a very special treat for fans. Not only will you see the best cowboys and cowgirls competing on the best livestock in the southeast, but we have the best rodeo clown in the world,” UWA head coach Chad Phipps said. “Robbie performed in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas this past December. He has a variety of comedy acts that will make everyone laugh.”
Thursday evening will be Intramural Night at the rodeo complex. Men will be able to participate in a steer scramble with ladies taking part in the calf scramble. In addition, Saturday night all kids 12 and under will be admitted free and can compete in the 12 and under calf scramble with a $50 prize.
Sponsors of the event include REM, Livingston Inn, Diamond Jim's and Mrs. Donna's Steakhouse, South Fresh Feeds Demopolis, Chemical Waste, City of Livingston, Sun South John Deere, Sumter County Farmers Federation and Sumter Supply.
