Tigers Drop Fourth Straight at Miles

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team dropped its fourth straight contest on Wednesday evening, falling 61-45 at Miles College. UWA falls to 1-5 on the campaign while the Golden Bears improve to 1-1.

Nikkia Jordan led the way in scoring with nine points, marking the first time this season that UWA didn't post a player in double figures. The trio of Brittany Weathers, Synthea Reed and Tamya Thompson Tigers grabbed a team-best six rebounds in the setback.

UWA connected on its first shot of the game to earn an early 2-0 lead, but it would be on the only margin in favor of the Red and White the remainder of the game as MC took a 4-2 advantage and never trailed in again in the contest.

The Tigers, who shot 30-percent from the field and 14.3 percent from behind the arc, couldn't overcome 18 turnovers that led to 20 Golden Bear points in the contest. MC also held a 27-12 advantage in second chance points while winning the rebounding edge 45-40.

The Purple and Gold posted three players in double-figures with Sammeika Thomas pacing the effort with 15 points. Toccara Charles added 11 points while Jessica Franklin supplied 10 points to join her team-high eight boards.

MC connected on 39-percent of its shots from the floor, including a 33-percent from three-point land.

UWA returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 4 against the Golden Bears. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
