LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Sunday, Dec. 11 as the Tigers wrap up their2011 edition of the home slate against Spring Hill. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game is first of three before the holiday break.
UWA concludes with a pair of games at the Valdosta State Days Inn Classic. The Red and White open the two-day tournament on Thursday, Dec. 15 vs. Coastal Georgia and finish on Friday, Dec. 16 against Columbus State. Both tips for those games are scheduled for 1 p.m. central.
Brittany Weathers continues to pace the Tigers. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native is averaging 16.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. The point average ranks sixth in the Gulf South Conference while her rebounding average is fourth in the conference. The junior has tallied three doubles-doubles on the campaign and has led the Tigers in scoring in five of seven games.
Nikkia Jordan joins Weathers in the double digit scoring column. Jordan, a Decatur, Ala., product, is averaging 10 points per game which ranks among the leaders in the GSC. Also among the conference leaders is
Kottia White. A native of Jackson, Miss., White ranks sixth in assists with three per game.
Spring Hill currently stands at 3-5 on the season and is led by April Bradford and LaSheena Nation. Bradford is averaging a double-double on the season with 11.6 points and 10.5 rebounds. Nation is also averaging double figures scoring with 11.4 points.
The weekend's opponents have combined for 16 wins on the campaign. A quartet is averaging double-digits scoring for the 8-1, Lady Canes of Georgia Southwestern. Terra Branch leads with 14.1 points while Adrian Randall paces GSW on the glass with 12.7 boards per game. Coastal Georgia, which is led by former UWA coach Betsy Harris, has a trio of players in double figures. Courtney Saunds is averaging 13.7 points while Gwen Fernandez is gathering 8.3 rebounds per contest.
