LIVE STATS vs. Florida Tech
LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After starting the season with a 3-1 record on the opening weekend, the University of West Alabama softball team returns to action at the UAH hosted, Charger Chillout Friday, Feb. 18 through Sunday, Feb. 20. The Tigers open the three-day tournament against Florida Tech at 2:30 p.m. and No. 6 Wayne State at 4:30 p.m.
UWA will face Quincy at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with a 2::30 first pitch scheduled against Ohio Dominican to close out the day. The final day of the Chillout pits the Tigers against Northern Kentucky at 1 p.m. and Indianapolis at 3 p.m.
The Tigers opened the season by setting the school record for runs scored in a game in a 28-4 trouncing of Miles College. In the win, UWA also tied the school mark for RBI in a game with 23 – equaling the mark set by the 2007 squad against Clark Atlanta - and
Ashley Frost tied the school record for RBI with seven en route to a 5 for 5 at the dish. The Tigers then rallied to defeat Columbus State 12-11 and 7-6. The lone blemish on the Red and White's record came in a 9-0 stumble against No. 2 North Georgia.
Along with Frost,
Jessica Powell and
Kelli Hartley each tallied seven RBI on the weekend. Powell finished the weekend with a .643 batting average while Hartley hit .583 during the four games.
Valisha Fincher also touted six RBI during the span. The quartet combined to drive in 27 of the Tigers' 41 runs on the weekend.
Katie Ford logged all three wins in the circle – improving her win total to 28 games for the Red and White. The Garden City, Kan. native fanned 11 over nine innings of work while allowing seven runs on 12 hits.
Kristen Skinner picked up her first save in a Tiger uniform in the second win over Columbus State. Skinner – a product of Toxey, Ala. – tossed 8 2/3 innings in three appearances with nine strikeouts.
Following the Chillout, West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 26 as the Tigers travel to Stillman College. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m. UWA then opens its home slate on Sunday, Feb. 27 against SC. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
