CHARGER CHILLOUT INFORMATION
DECATUR, Ala. – The University of West Alabama softball team opened the UAH hosted Charger Chillout with a pair of wins – including a seventh inning rally to upset No. 6 Wayne State 8-6. The win marks the first last at-bat rally for the Tigers this season. UWA (5-1) opened the Chillout with a 4-1 victory over Florida Tech.
Trailing 6-5 heading into the final inning, the Tigers loaded the bases with two outs.
Jessica Powell plated UWA's first run of the inning as she drew a walk to score
Meagan Sloke – who led the inning off with a single – to tie the game at 6-all. After an error by the second baseman kept the bases full of Tigers and scored
Taylor Beck,
Stephanie Beahn – one of five UWA players with multiple hits in the contest – drew the Red and White's third walk of the inning to score
Valisha Fincher and give the Red and White a two-run advantage.
Katie Ford (4-0) pitched six innings in the win as she allowed six runs on three hits and walked eight.
Kristen Skinner collected the save – her second of the campaign - in her second appearance of the day.
After a 3-all tie through five innings, UWA plated a pair of runs in the visiting half of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead. Beck singled to lead off the frame and scored on a Fincher triple to left center. Fincher's three-bagger was the only extra base hit of the contest of the Tigers – who recorded 12 hits on the day. Two batters later, Fincher scored on a Beahn single to left field to give the Red and White a two-run advantage heading into the bottom of the inning.
WSU answered with a three-spot in the sixth to take the lead - setting up the rally for the Tigers in the seventh inning.
Anna Shartzer, Beck, Fincher and
Ashley Frost each recorded multi hits in the win.
In the first outing of the day, UWA plated three runs in their first at-bat of the contest. Shartzer led the inning off with a double down the left field line. Beck followed by reaching base on an error by the pitcher. Shartzer scored on the play giving the Red and White their first run. Following a Fincher walk, Powell laid down a bunt single and moved around to third on a pair of errors. Beck and Fincher each crossed home to conclude the scoring in the inning.
UWA remained on top 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth, when Powell connected on her first homerun of the season – sending a ball over the left center field fence and giving the Red and White a 4-0 advantage. Powell finished as the affair as the only UWA player with multiple hits in the win.
The lone FIT run came in the top of the seventh as Natalie Beach scored on a two-out, single by Lani Ankeil.
Skinner (1-0) logged her first win of the season as she tossed four innings. Skinner fanned six FIT batters while allowing four hits and three walks on the afternoon.
Taylor Tucker tossed three innings in relief – surrendering the lone Panther run on four hits. Taylor - who collected a save - walked one and recorded a strikeout in her Tiger debut.
UWA will face Quincy tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m. followed by a 2:30 first pitch scheduled against Ohio Dominican. The final day of the Chillout pits the Tigers against Northern Kentucky at 1 p.m. and Indianapolis at 3 p.m.
