Tigers Throttle Montevallo In Women's Tennis

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Earning its third straight 9-0 win, the University of West Alabama women's tennis team defeated visiting Montevallo on Wednesday afternoon at the Howard R. Vaughn Tennis Complex. The triumph pushes the Tigers to 5-4 on the season.

In doubles action, the pair of Angy Cuellar and Courtney McDonald picked up the most dominating win as they won 8-0. Emily Gerding and Natalia Cardenas joined Katy Shoptaugh and Dasha Popova in picking up 8-4.

Cuellar, Gerding, and McDonald all were equally impressive in singles play as each recorded 6-0, 6-1 victories from the two, four, and six positions respectively. With a 6-1, 6-1 win, Popova won in the five spot. In the one and the three, Cardenas and Shoptaugh had easy 6-2, 6-2 wins.

The team will now be off until March 3 when both the men and women host UAH at 1 p.m.
