UWA Travels to Stillman Saturday; Opens Home Slate Sunday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama softball team returns to the diamond on Saturday, Feb. 26 as UWA (8-2) travels to Stillman College for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Tigers host SC (0-2) on Sunday, Feb. 27 in a twinbill scheduled for 2 p.m. Live stats will be available for Sunday's action at www.uwaathletics.com.

Sunday's outing is the first of a pair of home doubleheaders for the Tigers. The twinbill scheduled for Miles on Monday, Feb. 28 has been moved to Livingston. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Live stats will be available on UWA's official athletic website.

West Alabama opened the 2011 campaign with two impressive weekends in tournament action. UWA posted a 3-1 record at the Hughston Sports Clinic Classic to start the season. The Tigers followed the start with a 5-1 mark last weekend at the Charger Chillout.

Through the first 10 games of the season, Jessica Powell has paced the Red and White at the dish. The Orangevale, Calif., native is batting .457 with 10 runs scored and 14 runs batted in. The senior outfielder has tallied multi-hit performances in five games, including a 4-for-4, 5 RBI display in a 12-11 win over Columbus State. Powell also had the game-winning home run in a 2-0 win over Northern Kentucky and has drove in half of her runs with two outs.

Ashley Frost and Valisha Fincher are each batting .400 or better on the season. Frost has posted a .407 batting clip in eight games with Fincher hitting at .400.

In the circle, Skinner has pitched in seven of the Tigers' first 10 games with four starts and three wins. The Toxey, Ala. product has tossed two complete games, including a nine-inning, 5-1 win over Quincy at the Chillout where she allowed just five hits and struck out eight. The junior also picked up two saves, including a three-inning stint to close out a 7-6 win over Columbus State in the Tigers' opening weekend.

Katie Ford has logged a 5-1 record on the rubber this season. The Garden City, Kan., native has tossed 26 innings with 23 strikeouts – both marks are second among Tiger hurlers.
