LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama returns to the softball diamond on Sunday, Mar. 13, as UWA (16-2) hosts North Alabama in the two squads first weekend of divisional play. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.uwaathletics.com.
The Sunday twinbill marks the first gameday action for the Tigers since Tuesday when UWA swept Tuskegee 5-1 and 10-1. The two victories ran the Red and White's win streak to eight games – the longest of the season.
West Alabama and North Alabama have met 100 times all-time entering today's contests. The Lions hold the advantage in the series with a 54-46 record against UWA. Under
Will Atkinson, West Alabama is 5-6 against North Alabama. The two teams split the four meetings last season whole the Tigers got the best of the Purple and Gold in 2009 - winning three of four. UNA took all three outings in 2008.
Jessica Powell - the reigning Gulf South Conference East Division Player of the Week – leads the Tigers at the plate. The Orangevale, Calif., native is batting .476 on the season – which ranks fifth in the GSC. The junior outfielder is one of five Tigers ranked in the top 10 in the conference in batting.

Rebecca Schick (.467) are ranked seventh, eighth and ninth in the GSC in batting average.
Kristen Skinner and
Katie Ford have combined for 15 of West Alabama's 16 wins this season. Skinner is 7-0 on the year and leads the team in innings pitched (47.2) and strikeouts (51). Skinner's ERA of 1.47 stands fifth in the GSC while her strikeout total is ranked second. Ford is 8-1 on the campaign and second on the team in innings pitched (41.0) and strikeouts (41).
UNA (3-11) snapped a seven-game losing skid with a 5-1 win over Davis and Elkins on Mar. 4. Sarah Corn leads the Lions at the dish with a .407 batting average and 10 RBI. In the circle, Haley Barnette has fanned 27 batters in 31.1 innings. Barnette has registered the Purple and Gold's only shutout of the season – an 11-0 victory over Southern Indiana - while recording a 2-4 record.
West Alabama will travel to North Alabama on Friday, Mar. 18. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 5 p.m. in Florence, Ala.
