Tigers Travel to UNA Friday; Host Lambuth Sunday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
The University of West Alabama softball team returns to the diamond this weekend as UWA (16-4, 0-2 Gulf South Conference) travels to in-state nemesis North Alabama on Friday, Mar. 18 and hosts Lambuth on Sunday, Mar. 20. First pitch at UNA is slated for 5 p.m. with the LU start time scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.uwaathletics.com for both doubleheaders.

The Tigers opened GSC play with a pair of 3-2 losses to UNA (5-11, 2-0 GSC) on Sunday at the UWA Softball Complex. The setbacks marked the first time this season that the Red and White have had consecutive losses. The Lions hold the all-time series mark at 56-46.

On the year, freshman Rebecca Schick leads the Tigers with a .469 batting average, while seniors Valisha Fincher and Jessica Powell's four home runs are just ahead of Schick, sophomore Anna Shartzer and junior Nicole Bailey's two apiece. Powell and Fincher are batting .458 and .411 respectively. All players have collected 10-plus RBI on the season lead by Powell's 19.

Junior Kristen Skinner and senior Katie Ford have combined for 15 of West Alabama's 16 wins this season. Skinner is 7-1 on the year and leads the team in innings pitched (54.0) and strikeouts (54). Skinner's ERA of 1.69 stands fifth in the GSC while her strikeout total is ranked third. Ford is 8-2 on the campaign and second on the team in innings pitched (48.0) and strikeouts (43).

UNA extended its win streak to three games including the two wins over the Red and White. Sarah Corn leads the Lions at the dish with a .412 batting average and 10 RBI. Emily Barnes is tied with Corn for the team lead in RBI. In the circle, Haley Barnette has fanned 30 batters in 38.1 innings. Barnette has registered the Purple and Gold's only shutout of the season – an 11-0 victory over Southern Indiana - while recording a 3-4 record.

Mallory George paces LU at the dish with a .417 hitting clip while Dentaisha Meadows has driven in a team-leading four RBI on the season. Meadows also stands as the Eagles leader in the circle with a 3.77 ERA while holding the opposition's batters to a .218 batting average.
