Tigers Fall 2-1 at No. 4 Valdosta State; Game Two Halted

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of West Alabama softball team dropped the first game of the doubleheader at Valdosta State, 2-1. Game two of the twinbill was halted during the second inning due to inclement weather.

In the opening contest, UWA pounded out 10 hits but managed only one run while stranding 11 runners on base. The Tigers' lone run came in the seventh inning as Kelli Hartley singled to score Meagan Sloke, who pinch ran for Taylor Beck. Beck tallied a one-out single for the Red and White's first hit on the frame. One batter later, Jessica Powell moved Sloke to third on a double to left center – setting up Hartley's RBI base hit.

Kristen Skinner (9-3) was saddled with the loss despite scattering two hits on the day. The Toxey, Ala., junior fanned six Blazer batters while walking two. Both VSU runs were unearned in the outing.

Jordan Martin drove in the Blazers first run with a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Marti Littlefield in the fourth inning. A Tiger miscue in the sixth inning allowed Samantha Posey to score from second base – providing the cushion the Blazers needed for the one-run victory.

The Tigers travel to West Florida on Sunday, Mar. 27 with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. Live stats and audio will be available at www.uwaathletics.com.
