UWA Beats Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA – The University of West Alabama women's tennis team traveled to Clark Atlanta on Sunday to wrap up a suspended match from earlier in the season while also playing another full match, and the Tigers won both to move to 17-8 on the year.

In the 6-3 full match victory, Natalia Cardenas and Dasha Popova teamed up for an 8-2 win in doubles action, while the pairing of Katy Shoptaugh and Courtney McDonald was also victorious as they won by an 8-1 score.

In singles play, the trio of No. 3 Popova, No. 5 Shoptaugh, and No. 6 McDonald each won by identical scores of 6-0, 6-1, and Emily Gerding was a 6-3, 6-0 winner from the fourth position.

The two teams also finished the match that was suspended from March 5. The Tigers were leading 4-1 at the time rain interrupted things, and the teams agreed to finish today with the first team to five points winning. Popova ensured the UWA victory with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.
