Tigers Host UWF on Saturday Senior Day; VSU Sunday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
After placing themselves back into the Gulf South Conference Softball Tournament hunt last weekend, West Alabama returns to the diamond to host its final two, GSC, home doubleheaders this weekend. UWA (28-12, 8-10 GSC) welcomes West Florida on Saturday and Valdosta State on Sunday. First pitch for Saturday has been changed to 2 p.m. Sunday's action is slated for 1 p.m. Live stats will be available for both double dips with audio provided by UWF on Saturday.

The softball program will honor eight seniors, Katie FordMeagan SlokeKelli HartleyCaitlyn BonhamJessica PowellAngela SmithAshley Frost and Valisha Fincher before the doubleheader on Saturday.

The Tigers posted an impressive 7-0 mark last weekend against the GSC West Division and saw Fincher and junior Kristen Skinner awarded as conference player and pitcher of the week in the East Division with their efforts during the Crossover. Fincher led the tournament in nearly every major offensive category, including slugging percentage, home runs, runs batted in, on-base percentage, runs scored and walks while Skinner led the tournament in wins, strikeouts, and batting average against (.160).

On the season, sophomore Anna Shartzer leads the Tigers with a .454 batting average followed by Fincher, who is sporting a .431 average at the plate. Fincher also leads the Red and White in RBI (43) and homeruns (15). The senior is two homers short of tying the school record of 45.  Powell is second on the team in RBI with 40 and ranks third on the team in batting average with a .391 clip.

Skinner and Ford have combined for 26 of West Alabama's 28 wins. Skinner stands at 14-4 on the season while leading the team in innings pitched (113.2) and strikeouts (114). Ford, who is 12-3 on the campaign, is second in innings pitched (75.1) and strikeouts (61). Ford is tops in program history. Hannah Griffin has the other two Tiger victories in the circle with 38.2 innings pitched.
