DECATUR, Ala. – The University of West Alabama bats came to life in day three of the Gulf South Conference Crossover as UWA (26-12, 6-10 GSC) recorded a combined 26 runs in two victories. The Tigers doubled up Christian Brothers 12-6 in the opening game of the day and followed that with a 14-1 blasting of Henderson State.

Rebecca Schick and Valisha Fincher led the way at the dish in the two wins. Schick, a sophomore from New Orleans, La., posted a .800 batting average while Fincher, a Tarrant, Ala., senior, hit .750 with a team-best six RBI.

The Tigers also saw a pair of excellent performances in the circle with Kristen Skinner and Hannah Griffin each claiming wins. Skinner (13-4) pitched 3.0 innings in the mercy-rule win over the Lady Reddies while fanning four HSU batters and allowing only one to reach base by walk.

In the opener, UWA, along with 12 hits, capitalized on six CBU errors to post its 12 runs tally. The Red and White trailed 6-2 after two innings, but pulled within one run with a three-run, third inning. Kelli Hartley plated the majority of the runs with a one out, double to left center that score Fincher and Schick. Hartley later scored on a CBU error. The Tigers pulled even in the fourth inning as Jessica Powell singled down the left field line to score Taylor Beck.

UWA added two in the fifth to take the lead as Anna Shartzer and Allison Lockhart each scored on a multiple error play by the CBU first baseman. The Red and White then erupted with four runs in the sixth inning to put the contest out of reach.

In the second game of the day, the Tigers bats remained alive scoring eight runs in their first trip to the plate and following that with six runs in the second inning.

UWA's first four batters of the game each recorded a hit – capped off by Powell's triple that scored Fincher and Beck. Shartzer scored the first run of the contest, taking home on a passed ball. Powell later scored on a fielder's choice bunt by Meagan Sloke. Madison Fuller followed with a 2-RBI double to right field that scored Sloke and Schick.

Fincher added a bulk of the runs in the second frame as she cranked her 42nd career homerun and her third grand slam of the season to cap the scoring in the frame. Sloke and Beck each recorded RBI singles earlier in the inning to score the first two runs.

The Tigers close out the Crossover against Ouachita Baptist on Sunday at 10 a.m. with the final outing scheduled for 12 p.m. versus Arkansas Tech. Live stats will be available for all contests.
