LIVINGSTON, Ala. – For the first time this season the University of West Alabama women's soccer team has dropped a two consecutive contests as UWA (2-3) falls 6-0 to Columbus State at Tiger Stadium on Wednesday evening. CSU (3-1-1) fired off 12 shots on the night with seven coming on goal in the win.
The Cougars – who were nationally ranked a week ago at 14th – punched in three of their four goals in the early minutes of the first half. Stephanie Lowery scored the first goal in the 6th minute followed by the first of two goals from Emily Husted just eight minutes later. Lowery assisted on Husted's goal. Kiana Nicholson connected on the third goal in the 19th minute on an assist from Husted. The final goal of the half came in the 43rd minute when Amber Wright scored on an unassisted goal.
The Tigers logged just three shots on the night with one shot coming on goal by
Lydia Sutcliffe in the first half.
Vicky Petrova and
Nicki Gears each logged shot attempts in the contest.
Husted opened the second half with her second goal at the 48 minute mark followed by Jackie Ellis' goal in the 90th minute. Both goals were unassisted.
Jess Martin (2-3) logged one save in the loss while Mary Mancin (3-1-1) tallied one save in the contest for the win. Mancin played 69 minutes of the contest before giving way to Katlin Stephens to close out the outing.
West Alabama returns to action on Friday, Sept. 15 as the Tigers play host to Tennessee Temple. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
