UWA Ready for D2 Road Outing at Arkansas Tech

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After pair of consecutive wins at home, the University of West Alabama football team looks to extend its streak to three games on Saturday, Sept. 24 as UWA (2-1) travels to Arkansas Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the broadcast of the game, on ESPN 104.9, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

In order to lengthen the win streak the Tigers – who have claimed the last two meetings between the two schools - will have to pick up their first win in Russellville since 1982. The Red and White is currently 0-1 away from Tiger Stadium this season after falling 20-10 in the season opener at South Alabama.

Last weekend, UWA racked up 531 yards of total offense en route to its 45-7 victory over Central State. The combination of Matt Willis and Gerald Worsham produced 238 yards of the Tigers' total output. Willis – a native of Collins, Miss. – totaled 122 yards on the ground on 12 carries. The junior also posted two TDs in the contest – the first two of the game. Worsham - a product of Birmingham, Ala. - finished the evening with 116 receiving yards on five catches, including one for a score. Defensively, UWA held CSU to just 248 total yards. A majority of the Marauders offense came on the ground. CSU rushed for 173 yards with CSU signal caller, Michael Wilson leading the way with 57.

Tech (1-2) looks to rebound from a tough 47-32 loss against nationally ranked Delta State in its home opener. ATU's offense gained a total of 262 yards compared to the Statesmen's 532 yards. DSU's Micah Davis threw for 419 yards as he was 34-for-60 with four touchdowns and one interception. Freshman quarterback Preston Conder, who was making his second career start under center, finished 20-for-35 passing for 226 yards and had two interceptions and two touchdowns in the loss.

The ground game leads the way for the Tigers offensively. UWA is averaging 241.33 yards per game – which ranks 15th in the nation. Willis – who ranks 47th nationally - paces the Tiger rushing attack with 83.67 yards per outing.

The linebacker duo of Deon Lacey and Gabe Poe continue to pilot the Red and White defense. Lacey has posted a team-best 20 tackles this season with Poe - 2010's leader in stops - one stop behind him with 19. Shontral Ford ranks third on the squad with 17 tackles.

ATU is averaging 346 yards of total offense while surrendering an average 469 yards. Conder ranks 46th nationally in total offense (253 yards) and 42nd in pass efficiency (133). Condor's main target comes in the form of A.J. Whitmore who is averaging just over 7.5 receptions per contest – which stands ninth in the nation.

Defensively, Courtney Rockwell paces the Green and Gold. Rockwell leads the team with 28 tackles (9.3 tpg.) on the season with Myron Johnson chiming in 22 stops.

Saturday's contest is the first of three games against GAC foes for the Tigers. West Alabama hosts Harding (Oct. 1) and Southern Arkansas (Oct. 8) over the next two weeks.
