Tigers Fall 50-49 at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team dropped a 50-49 decision on Thursday evening at Christian Brothers. The setback marks the second in Gulf South Conference play this season.

The Lady Bucs (4-11, 1-2 GSC) held the lead for a majority of the contest as the two squads only exchanged lead changes four times on the evening.

Nikkia Jordan paced the Red and White in scoring with 13 while Keiara Middleton added 10 points, just the second double digit effort for the Birmingham, Ala., native on the campaign. Brittany Weathers pulled down a team-best 13 rebounds, tying a career-high for the Hattiesburg, Miss., product.

After trailing 18-13 at the break, the Tigers eliminated the Red and Black advantage and grabbed their first lead since the early minutes of the first half at 24-22 on a Jordan jumper with 14:56 left in the second stanza. The Red and White continued the scoring outburst with a 5-0 run that gave UWA its largest lead of the contest at 29-22 when Jordan laid up a basket with 13:32 remaining.

UWA held the advantage until CBU tied the contest at 46-all with less than a minute to play. Adrienne McKay gave forced the tie and Taylor Pugh put the Lady Bucs back in front with 24 seconds left. The CBU lead was the first time since the 16-minute mark in the period.

Jasmine Ellis recorded a double-double to lead the Red and Black with 16 points and 15 rebounds in the winning effort.

Despite outscoring the Lady Bucs 20-5 in fast break points, UWA shot a season-low, 29-percent in the loss. CBU connected on 37.5-percent of its shots from the floor.

West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 14 as the Tigers continue their conference, opening road swing at Delta State. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. The game can be heard on ESPN 104.9 FM and www.uwaathletics.com.
