LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Despite a career-high scoring night for
Nikkia Jordan, the University of West Alabama women's basketball team dropped its third straight Gulf South Conference outing as the Tigers (6-10, 1-4 GSC) fell 68-58 to Valdosta State on Thursday evening in Pruitt Hall. VSU improves to 12-4 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
Jordan, a Decatur, Ala., native, led all scorers with 22 points –besting her previous mark of 15 earlier this season. The junior connected on just under 53-percent of her shots en route to the career –high mark while the Red and White as a team hit 38-percent of its shots from the field in the setback.

Brittany Weathers each pulled down a team-best six rebounds, totaling 12 of the Tigers 38 in the contest.
Brittany Nelson helped lead the way for VSU as the Rochester, Mich., product was one of two Lady Blazers in double figures. Nelson totaled 15 points in the outing, hitting 5-of-6 from behind the arc - serving as a catalyst for the Red and Black, which hit 50-percent of its shots from 3-point land. Brittany Feguson posted a team-leading 21 points while Maylisa Johnson hauled in nine rebounds.
After leading a most of the opening stanza, UWA found itself trailing the visiting Lady Blazers by just a point. The Red and White opened the second stanza with five quick points to take a 35-33 lead its first since the final two minutes of the opening half.
VSU, however, took control of the contest answering with a 13-4 run to grab a 49-39 advantage with 11:19 remaining in the contest. The Tigers answered with a scoring spurt of its own, pulling with seven just a few minutes later, but the Red and Black again strung together a run to push the margin back out to 16 points (66-50) – their largest of the game - with just over two minutes left in the contest.
West Alabama returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 21 as the Tigers visit West Florida. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
