LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team was held to a season-low point total as the Tigers (6-12, 1-6 GSC) fell 37-35 against West Georgia on Saturday afternoon at Pruitt Hall. UWG improved to 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the Gulf South Conference.
The combined point total was a single game-low passing the previous mark of 75 points combined between the Tigers and William Carey during the 1990-91 campaign.
UWA shot a season-low 25-percent in the setback that extended its losing skid to five games, tying a season-long. West Georgia connected on 22-percent of its shots.
Brittany Weathers grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds in the setback.. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native surpassed her season-best of 14 boards and posted her eighth contest with double-digit boards.
Kenyatta Epps led UWA with 9 points – marking her first time as the Tigers' leading scorer this seeason.
After leading 17-13 at the break, UWG pushed its lead out to as much as six points in the early minutes of the second half, but the Tigers posted a 9-1 run to take its first lead since the 2:48 mark of the opening stanza with 11:45 left in the contest on an Epps' three-pointer.
Epps helped increase UWA's lead to as much as five points behind her outside shooting, but with 4:25 left in the outing Shakiyla McLin placed the Wolves back in front on a jumper with 4:25 remaining.
Both teams managed just a a bucket each over the next three minutes with the Wolves' Mone Peoples scoring the final basket of the game at the 1:50 mark marking the difference in the contest.
Peoples and Shunice Hardy posted 11 points each to lead the Wolves in scoring while Valerie Jones grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.
West Alabama returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 2 as the Tigers begin the second stanza of conference play at Alabama-Huntsville. Tip at UAH is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The game can be heard on ESPN 104.9 FM and www.uwaathletics.com.
