DSU, Rhoades Too Much for Tigers in 65-42 Loss

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team witnessed its two-game win streak snapped as the Tigers (8-14, 3-8 GSC) fall 65-42 to Delta State on Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action. The Lady Statesmen ran their season record to 17-4 and 10-1 in conference play.

UWA, which shot just 28-percent from the field, was held to its second lowest point total of the season in the loss. The lowest came in a 37-35 stumble against West Georgia just over two weeks ago.

The sharp shooting of Brooke Rhoades led DSU as the Pelahatichie, Miss., native totaled a career-high 27 points. The sophomore scored over 40-percent of the Green and White's points in the winning effort. Rhoades also hauled in a team-best eight rebounds – just two shy of her career-high.

Joining Rhoades in double digits was Veronica Walker who tallied 15 points.

Jamie Gunter led the Tigers in scoring with nine points while tying for the team lead in rebounds at eight with Synthea Reed.

The Lady Statesmen (17-4, 10-1 GSC) jumped out to large lead early in contest behind a 13-2 run and never looked back in the contest. DSU reached its largest lead of the contest at 23 points with just under 12 minutes to play in the game on the second of a pair of free throws by Rhoades.

The UWA bench outscored the Green and White 13-7.

West Alabama returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 16 as the Tigers travel to Valdosta State. Tip at VSU is scheduled for 5 p.m. The game will be carried on ESPN 104.9 FM and www.uwaathletics.com.
