CARROLLTON, Ga. – A dominating second half lead the University of West Alabama women's basketball team to 63-48 win at West Georgia on Saturday afternoon inside The Coliseum.
Nikkia Jordan led the way in scoring with tying a career-high mark of 23 points.
After a seemingly close opening half, the Tigers (11-14, 6-8 Gulf South Conference) erupted for 36 second half points while holding the Red and Blue to just 19 points in the second 20 minutes. The Red and White shot a season-high 49 percent from the floor after shooting a season-low 25 percent in the first meeting between the two squads.
UWA, which bested the Wolves by 10 points in the paint, closes out the regular season winning five of its last six heading into the conference tournament at The Arena in Niceville, Fla. The tournament begins on Thursday, Mar. 1.
Synthea Reed registered her first double-double of the season joining Jordan in double figures as the Union, N.J., native posted 11 points and a team-best 11 points in the victory.
The Tigers reached their largest lead of the game at 17 points with 1:15 remaining on Jordan 3-pointer. The trey was the second of the game for the Decatur, Ala., product en route to her career-high mark night.
West Georgia concluded the night shooting 35 percent from the floor. Shunice Hardy paced the Wolves with 16 points and hauled in a team-high 9 rebounds while Krystal Delph and Angela Davis each chimed in 12 points.
West Alabama awaits its opponent for the GSC Tournament as the Tigers have locked up at least the five seed.
