Jordan's Career-High Leads Tigers to Second Straight Conference Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team picked up its second consecutive Gulf South Conference triumph and third of the season with a 53-39 win over Christian Brothers on Thursday evening. The victory moves the Tigers to 8-13 and 3-7 in the conference.

The victorious outcome avenges a 50-49 decision earlier this season in Memphis.

Nikkia Jordan posted a career-high 23 points in the win besting her previous mark in a loss to Valdosta State less than a month ago. The double digit performance is the third straight for the Decatur, Ala., native and her 14th on the campaign.

Brittany Weathers and Tamya Thompson led the squad with 6 rebounds each – helping the Red and White to 37 on the night.

For the second straight outing the Red and White converted its opponents turnovers into 20-plus points as the Tigers scored 22 points off of 24 CBU miscues.

The Lady Bucs were held to 28-percent shooting from the floor - the second lowest this season for a UWA foe. West Georgia shot the lowest total at 23-percent.

An evenly fought contest over the first 20 minutes, UWA took advantage in the opening minutes holding as much as a 6-point lead, but the Lady Bucs would fight back and take its first lead of the outing at 11-10 with just under 11 minutes to play. Kottia White gave the Tigers the lead back as the Jackson, Miss., product sank a pair of shots from the free throw line.

Once again CBU would fight back and take a lead in the contest this time at the 6:37 mark on an Amber Williams jumper. The advantage would be the final one for the visiting Lady Bucs as the Tigers quickly regained the edge on a Jordan jumper. UWA never trailed the remainder of the contest.

UWA took its first double-digit margin at the 11:36 mark of the second half on another Jordan jumper. The Tigers held a double figure lead the rest of the way reaching its largest margin of 15 points with 1:37 left in the contest.

Jasmine Ellis paced the Lady Bucs with 12 points and team-best 8 boards.

West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 as the Tigers host Delta State. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. The game will be carried on ESPN 104.9 FM and www.uwaathletics.com.
