LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After nearly two weeks off the diamond, the University of West Alabama softball team returns to action this weekend as the Tigers (3-5) travel to Florence, SC to face Francis Marion on Saturday, Mar. 3 and Brevard College on Sunday, Mar. 4 at the FMU Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for Noon and 11 a.m. central respectively.
UWA was set to home its home slate on Wednesday, but due to weather conditions the game was rescheduled for Apr. 10 against Miles College.
After the first eight games of the season, junior
Tamara Vickers paces the Red and White at the dish with a .417 batting clip and is second on the team in RBI with four. At the UAH Charger Chillout, the Lawndale, Calif., native went 8-for-13 at the plate for a .615 batting average and drove in a pair of runs.
Sophomore
Rebecca Schick sits second on the team with a .375 batting average and the leads the squad with 9 RBI on the season. The New Orleans, La., product has six hits on the campaign with three coming by way of homeruns.
The duo of
Kristen Skinner and
Jessica Brock has logged all the Tiger wins in the circle. A freshman from Gallion, Ala., Brock has recorded a team-leading 18.2 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts on her way to a 3.75 ERA. Skinner, a Toxey, Ala., native, has posted the best ERA on the team at 1.02 with 13 “K”s in 13.2 innings of work.
FMU (11-7) enters the weekend after dropping a doubleheader to Georgia College on Sunday. Tristan Faile and Ashley Jaramillo have combined for 28 of the Patriots' 70 RBI on the season. Faile leads the squad in batting average with a .455 mark while Jaramillo has a squad-best 18 RBI. Taylor Luff leads the Red and Blue in the circle with a 1.88 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched.
After starting the season winning six of its first seven games, BC (7-5) has dropped four of its last five including three straight. Kayla Clemens is a dual threat for the Tornadoes. Clemens is the leader on the rubber for BC with a 2.33 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 39 innings of work and also leads the squad in RBI with 14 while tallying a .359 batting average.
Following the weekend, road trip, West Alabama returns to action on Tuesday, Mar. 6 to open the home slate against Tuskegee. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
