UWA Softball Prepares for Mid-Week Contests; Opens Home Slate on Tuesday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After splitting contest over the weekend, the University of West Alabama softball team prepares for a pair of mid-week doubleheaders, including the 2012 home opener. UWA (4-6) hosts Tuskegee on Tuesday, Mar. 6 before traveling to Miles on Wednesday. Both contests are set for 2 p.m.

The quartet of Taylor Miller, Stephanie Shoup, Tamara Vickers and Rebecca Schick led the Tigers at the dish over the week as each posted a .500 batting clip. Miller, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native tallied a team-best 5 RBI over the weekend while Morgan Morrison drove in 4 runs while recording a .375 batting average.

After the first 10 games on the season, Vickers paces the Red and White at the plate batting .438 while Schick sits as the team leader in RBI with 11.

Jessica Brock (3-1) picked up the win in the circle with 4 innings allowing a run on 3 hits. The Gallion, Ala., product leads the squad in wins, strikeouts (16) and innings pitched (22.2). Kristen Skinner has tallied the best ERA on the team at 2.10 in four appearances. The Toxey, Ala., native sits second in strikeouts with 15 in 16.2 innings of work.

TU enters the Tuesday twinbill with a 2-2 record after dropping a pair to Auburn-Montgomery (11-1, 10-0). MC (2-7) has dropped its last three outings as the Golden Bears have been outscored 29-2.

Following the two mid-week contests, West Alabama opens Gulf South Conference action on Saturday, Mar. 10 as the Tigers travel to West Florida. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
