Tiger Softball Opens GSC Play at West Florida

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama softball team looks to continue its season-long, three-game win streak as the Tigers (7-7) open Gulf South Conference play on Saturday, Mar. 10 at West Florida. Live stats and audio can be found at www.uwaathletics.com.

In the last seven contests, UWA has outscored its opponents 64-29 – an average of 5 runs per contest. The Tiger defensive has also tallied a pair of shutouts in the last seven outings along with three run-rule wins.

The bats of Tamara Vickers and Rebecca Schick remain impressive as the duo sits among the top 15 in the conference in batting average. Vickers, a Lawndale, Calif., native has posted a .500 clip at the plate and is third on the team in RBI with 8. Schick, a product of New Orleans, La., ranks second on the team in batting average at .400 and leads the squad with 16 RBI. Reigning GSC Player of the Week, Taylor Miller is second on the squad with 9 RBI.

The pitching duo of Jessica Brock and Kristen Skinner has combined for all 7 wins in the circle. A freshman from Gallion, Ala., Brock has registered 5 of the wins in a team-best 31.2 innings of work while fanning 32 batters – also a team-leader. Skinner holds the best ERA on the team at 1.77 and is second on the team in strikeouts (28) and innings pitched (27.2).

UWF (11-9) broke a string of two losses by claiming its last two outings blanking Notre Dame (OH) 8-0 and 4-0 earlier this week.

Emma Johansen leads the Argos at the dish batting .404 on the campaign. Johansen stands as the only UWF player ranked among the top 15 in the conference in batting average. The pitching trio of Jordan Ratliff, Sarah Scott and Ashliegh McLean has registered 10 of the Argos wins. Scott is tops on the staff in wins with 4 while fanning a team-leading 31 batters. Ratliff and McLean have each tallied 3 wins while Ratliff has 26 strikeouts along with a team-best 2.10 ERA.

West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Mar. 17 as the Tigers travel to Valdosta State for a conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. central.
