LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama softball team ran its season-long win streak to 10 games following a doubleheader sweep of Stillman on Wednesday evening, 11-2 and 3-1. The pair of wins also logged a season sweep of SC.
Stephanie Shoup drove in seven of the Tigers' (27-15) runs as she went a combined 4-for-6 at the plate with a double, triple and a pair of homeruns. The junior nearly missed hitting for the cycle in the opener of the twinbill – marking the second time this season.
Tamara Vickers posted the best batting average of the over the two contests going 5-for-6 with five runs scored on the night. Vickers and
Kelsey Cooper joined Shoup with multiple hits in the first contest as the trio tallied eight of the Red and White's 11 hits.
Hannah Griffin logged her first win of the season in a four-strikeout, five-hit, complete game performance in the opening game of the twinbill.
In the second contest, freshman
Jessica Brock improved to 15-5 on the year pitching 6.1 innings. The Gallion, Ala., product struck out five while allowing just four hits on the night with a walk. Sophomore
Taylor Tucker logged the final two outs to pick up her third save of the season.
UWA jumped on the board with two runs in their first at-bat as Vickers scored on a passed ball and
Taylor Beck delivered a two-out, RBI single down the left field line to score Shoup.
Shoup later added her second homer of the night with a solo shot to left field in the fifth inning. The two dingers place the Oviedo, Fla., native in second on the squad in homeruns behind
Rebecca Schick's season-high 12.
Ashley Savage and Brittany Perry were saddled with the losses for Stillman. Savage falls to 12-4 on the season while Perry stands at 9-5.
SC, which tallied just nine hits on the night, falls to 23-9 overall.
West Alabama returns to Gulf South Conference play on Saturday, Apr. 14 at 2 p.m. as the Tigers host Valdosta State.
