Women's Soccer Concedes First Hat-Trick in 4-1 Loss to UWF

Box Score

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Florida's Sara Helgadottir posted three goals in the first half to defeat West Alabama women's soccer 4-1 in Gulf South Conference action on Friday. It is the first hat-trick allowed by UWA this season.

The match concludes the Tigers' regular season and drops them to 10-7 on the year; 5-5 in the conference. Nationally top ranked West Florida ends its regular season as GSC champions with a 12-0-3 record; 9-0-1 in conference.

"We gave them a little too much respect," said UWA head women's soccer coach Graeme Orr.

"They are a fantastic team of great pedigree but you have to be able to win both halves. We were better quality in the final third. Our objective was to go out there and show that we could compete and we accomplished that in the second half. Now we have to be positive going into the conference tournament."

Lauren Tate put the Tigers on the board in the 23rd minute with her fourth penalty kick goal of the season. She remains perfect inside the penalty box this year.

Chelsea Palmer cemented the Argonauts victory with her 10th goal of the season in the 71st minute. Her goal came by way of a pass from Sashana Campbell, who ended the game with two assists. Palmer assisted on Helgadottir's opening goal in the 5th minute.

Tiger goal keeper Issy Foster completed four saves but falls to 9-6. The Argo's starting keeper Sarah Story improves to 14-14, having allowed one goal while in the goal for 77 minutes.

"Everyone we have played this year we have been able to compete with," Orr said.

"We are in a very tough conference. We have two national champions in our conference. We have four conference teams ranked in the region. We have proved this year that we can compete with the best in Division II."

UWA will now prepare for the Gulf South Conference tournament set for Nov. 7th-10th in Pensacola, Fla.
