Tigers Claim First Win in Double Header Split

AMERICUS, Ga. – West Alabama baseball split a double header against Georgia Southwestern to pick up its first win of the season. The Tigers bounced back from a 6-5 loss late in game one to an 11-1 blowout victory in game two.

“I thought we played well today,” said UWA head coach Gary Rundles.

“I thought we should have won both games today. I think we made some mistakes that gave them opportunities and they took advantage of it. But I was very proud of our guys in the second game. I thought we responded very well.”

UWA now improves to 1-5 on the season while the Hurricanes fall to 2-4.

In game one, Georgia Southwestern's closing pitcher Dillan Folds entered into the eighth inning to pick up his second win of the season. Folds pitched two strikeouts and gave up only one hit. Tigers' Steven Glasgow added his second loss of the season, giving up six hits and four runs.  

The Hurricanes' Michael Snead and the Tigers' Mitch Holgate both tallied two runs with four at-bats each in the first game.
In game two, Taylor Bratt picked up his first win for the Tigers' this season. Bratt gave up only one run in five innings to claim the win, while GSW's Matthew Suggs gave up five runs to pick up his first loss of the season.

Mitch Holgate continued to lead his team at the plate in game two. He finished with three runs and three RBI's in three at-bats, including a two run homerun to left centerfield in the top of the fourth inning. Josh Sanders counted the only run for the Hurricanes.

Both teams will meet again on Sunday to wrap up the three game series. First pitch is set for noon (C.S.T.).
