UWA Softball Pounds Miles

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama softball team scored 40 runs on 35 hits on the way to doubleheader sweep against Miles College at the UWA Softball Complex.

The Tigers won the first game, 17-3, and took the nightcap, 23-0. In four games against Miles this season, the Tigers have scored 81 runs on 76 hits.

UWA snapped a two -game losing streak to improve to 20-10. The Golden Bears dropped to 17-12. UWA softball returns to Gulf South Conference play on Saturday, traveling to Alabama-Huntsville. First pitch for the doubleheader starts at 2pm.

West Alabama got a pair of home runs from Michal Robertson and Morgan Morrison. Brooklynn Phillips and Stephanie Shoup also homered. Phillips' shot was a grand slam, while both of Morrison's homers came in the second game.

Rebecca Schick and GSC player of the week contributed three hits each in the two games. Thirteen different UWA players had at least one hit in the second game.

UWA starting pitchers Taylor Tucker (2-0) and Sarah Ray (12-3) earned pitching wins. Sara Mason (1-1) and Victoria Maston (1-1) took the losses for Miles.
