UAH Shuts Out Tiger Softball

Box Score

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama-Huntsville put up three runs in the second inning and that was all a pair of Chargers' pitchers would need on the way to defeating West Alabama, 5-0, in the first game of a scheduled Gulf South Conference doubleheader Saturday at the UAH Charger Softball Complex. The second game was cancelled due to rain.

The second game will not be rescheduled, leaving UAH at 22-11 overall and 13-4 in GSC play. UWA, ranked 21st in NCA Division II, dropped to 20-11 and 9-9. The Tigers will take Easter Sunday off before traveling to Tuskegee for a doubleheader on Monday at 1 p.m.

All three runs were unearned for UAH in the second inning off UWA starter and loser Sarah Ray (12-4). Ray allowed six hits and struck out one. Whitney Toler (10-1) worked four innings, allowing just two hits and striking our four, to earn the win for UAH. Kimberly Jack worked the final three innings, also allowing just a pair of hits and striking out three, for her fifth save.

First baseman and current GSC player of the week Anna Shartzer had two of UWA's four hits. The rainout also cost Shartzer what would have been her third home run of the season, a two-run shot early in the second game, prior to the game being cancelled.

Mary Kelley and Abby MacKay each had a pair of hits for UAH, including a double for each. Nicole Bobrowski tripled for the Chargers.
